A Look Back at the Original PJC News Blog(s)

 

As you must know, you're currently reading this on the shiny new PJC news blog made very recently to coincide with the new website. However, this news blog isn't the first we've had.

That's right, back in the day, many of the websites we created had their very own dedicated news blogs. There were the many that Ethan made for the different iterations of his PJC site, and their was mine for the Scooter site. In all of them, you'll find updates about new stuff as well as little tidbits from the past. Some of these blog posts are quite funny looking back, such as the one from my site that announced The Scooter Show for the first time. It reads: "The first episode will come out on November 30th of this year, and a new episode will come out every Wednesday after that." If you've been with us for a while, you know damn well that didn't happen. The show lasted across just under two years, and within that time only 5 episodes were produced. The reason for this is because I love to procrastinate. I remember I had a whole 4+ season plan for the show including big elaborate story arks and dozens of characters. Maybe, just maybe someday I'll publish all of it in the form of comics or something. I don't know. Anyways, in another post from my site, you can see the Squidiots pilot was announced way back in 2024! This was before many of the ideas used in the final product were around. There was also another pilot announced in the same post, entitled "Crug and Draco" which was to be based on another one of Ethan's comics. I might make this one day, since the concept is mildly cool. The only thing is, that one revolves around humans, and I hate drawing humans. They're so boring and restrictive.

Anyways, we should probably move on to some of the posts on Ethan's old site. His posts were a lot more varied in topic. Some of them were him shouting at our school to unblock his website. In addition to these, there were quite a few Top 10 lists and announcements for projects and characters that never really got off the ground. There was also one directed towards me entitled "Dear Animator." The post reads as follows.

"you need to finish ep.3 because we are all waiting. DO IT PLZ!!!"

Man, back in those days everyone else was yelling at me to finish the episodes. This was because they themselves never tried animating, and in turn, didn't know how difficult and time consuming it is. Eventually though, I showed him a ~40 minute livestream of me animating some scenes for the show and he had a change of heart about the topic.

There were also a few posts thrown in there about the Scooter chatbots we made on character.ai or a similar website. I remember Ethan gave the Scooter one an existential crisis by telling it that it was a chatbot of a cartoon character meant to entertain. Fun times. Anyways, that's all there is to say.
